10 years into my real estate career, I find “I remember when…” leaving my lips more and more. It makes me check my head for gray hairs. Luckily still blonde!
We have all likely been reminiscing about the changes in the home market over the past few years. Living through the covid pandemic was a life changing event for the nation. Living it as a real estate professional was eye-opening…. and honestly, exhausting. I remember when homes received 22 offers the first day on the market. I remember when buyers started crying after losing their 5th bidding war.
Swarms of people fighting for a chance to own four walls and a roof demonstrated the power of homeownership. We all want a place to call our own. The pandemic brought that desire to the forefront.
For better or for worse, change is the one guarantee in this industry. Every year has a new set of challenges that requires adaptation to survive. As I start 2024, I am creating new marketing strategies and pricing methods to combat high interest rates. The marketing strategies and pricing methods that worked last year, or even last month, may not yield great results now.
As I sat down to write my 10-year reflection, I thought about many things. Of all the things I could say, perspective continues to be one of the most important things I have gained. Our short-term memory is not the best decision maker. After 10 years in the industry, keeping a long-term perspective grounded in experience is the greatest asset I can give my clients.
I remember when a first-time home buyer put $5,000 down on their first home and made $100,000 on the sale 2 years later. I remember when a widow was targeted by off market investors, and we ended up selling together for $50,000 more (after commission) than their offers. I remember when an investor bought their first home and now has three with enough cash flow for more.
Real estate is cyclical. There are peaks and troughs. However, the overall trajectory for real estate is up! Real estate has value, and that value helps build wealth for those who own and invest in it.
As we come down our covid market high, I want my 10-years of experience to help you realize these success stories can still be you! I want to help you make the best investment in yourself and your family – no matter whether we are in a peak or trough. Having a place to call your own will forever be important.
