A pool inspection is an additional inspection you can get on top of a home inspection. It usually goes into more detail. It helps find major problems with the pool, such as leaks and other things, that could cost you money upon move-in. The benefit of this is you can ask the home seller to repair these issues before you purchase it. Today, we are talking to a pool inspector who likes to suit up and dive right in.

I am Jim Davis (904-548-7143) and I own Accurate Pool Inspections and Leak Detective (click for web site). We are located in Jacksonville Beach. We service all the way up to St. Simons Island and all the way down to Costa Rica. We have been in the business 11 years and have worked on over 8,500 pools.
What happens during a pool inspection?
We run all the equipment. If they have water features, like this pool has deck jets, we will run all the equipment. As far as the interior is concerned, we are checking for the longevity of the plaster surface. We are checking if things are safe and how they are assembled. For example, are they safe for your children to get in? We look at all these items in each pool we inspect.
Why get a pool inspection in addition to a home inspection?
The pool is completely different from the house. If you are going to inspect the pool, the main thing you need to do is get in the pool and actually swim the pool. Inspectors don’t do that. They inspect the pool from the outside. It is like me inspecting the house from out here in the yard. Of course, it doesn’t make any sense.
How much does a pool inspection cost and how long does it take?
A pool inspection is $289. It takes us between 1.5 – 2 hours, depending on the complexity.
Why choose Accurate Pool Inspections?
We are first and foremost a leak detection and remediation company. If people have some sort of a problem, they come to us to resolve it. For us, we have always been resolving problems on pools. When the real estate market heated up years ago, we were getting so many clients every week calling us to say: “we bought a house and it was inspected by this inspector and it’s got problems”. Well, they would have $13,000 – $14,000 worth of work sometimes that needed to be done. We wanted to stop that. We started the inspection side. We provide an underwater video for all of our inspections. Everybody can see what we see. If I say there is something wrong with the drain, I don’t want you just to believe me. I want you to see photographs of it. You will have a video showing all of the swimming of the vessel, the deterioration, leaks, etc.
